What to expect on your first day

This is a typical first day at Cairns Language Centre. The times listed can change. If we don’t follow the times exactly, there will be a good reason for the flexibility.

8.00am -8.30am | Meet us

Our Student Services Team will greet you when you arrive.

We will make a copy of your passport for our records. It’s one of those official things.

We will issue you your student identity card. You’ll be eligible for discounts with some Cairns businesses once you can show your card.

8.30am- 9.30am | Language Testing

Our Academic Team will take you to our language testing lab.

There we’ll assess your current English language skills. We check your writing, reading, listening, grammar and speaking skills.

The results enable us to match you with the best classes for your current needs.

9.30am-10.30am | Orientation

We will give you an orientation into studying at our Centre.

We inform you about your rights, what we expect of you, how you can be supported and how to ask for help.

We inform you about studying in Australia and how to be safe and comfortable in Cairns.

10.30am-11.00am | Results

Our Academic Team will discuss with you the results of your tests. We will inform you about the class you will be joining based on your test results.

11.00am-1.10pm | Cairns Tour

We take you for a brief tour of Cairns. We will show you the major landmarks. The landmarks will help you so you don’t lose your way when you travel around our lovely city. We show you some of the highlights of Cairns that you can visit later on during your stay.

You then get to break for lunch. You might want to relax after an information-filled morning

1.10pm-3.20pm | Meet your class

After lunch we will take you to meet your new class. You’ll meet your teacher and the other students. Some will be new starters like yourself. Some will be experienced students who have been at the Centre for a while.

Then it’s over to you, start your studies. Enjoy the experience.
