Papua New Guinea 40th year of independence

Australia’s nearest neighbor Papua New Guinea will celebrated its 40th year of independence recently. Being one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world with 848 languages listed, students at Cairns Language Centre and Cairns Business College shared this variety with their fellow students and visitors alike.

They displayed and explained about their home country’s regions and culture, sold beautiful bags, yummy food and coffee. One of the highlights was the face painting stall which celebrated local customs and gave Papua New Guinea culture a visible presence at the College.

“Studying at a language school does not only mean that you will experience a country far from home,” says Principal Robyn White. “It also enables you to learn about the cultures of your fellow students. As Cairns Language Centre, we support our students to grasp the opportunity for cultural exchange.”

Donations for coffee and face painting went towards shipping medical equipment to hospitals and clinics in Morobe Province. Equipment includes, for example, hospital beds, dialysis chairs, maternity beds and dental chairs.
